Underwater Photography Classes
I'm really excited to be partnering up with UB Diving in Courtenay to offer underwater photography classes! What I have learned from participating in and running week-long intensive photo workshops is that there are a few important things for progressing your skills as an underwater photographer.
1. Learn theory, technical aspects, and techniques
2. Assignments to push you out of your comfort zone and expand your skillset
3. Lots and lots of hands-on time in the water developing your skills
4. Constructive feedback about your images and those of your peers
The last thing I want to do is to make this a "one-and-done" where you come for a class, take some notes, see some interesting things, and then everything stops there. My goal with offering classes is to hit all 4 of the above points so that you can move forward on your own photographic journey of continuous improvement. After a few hundred dives with my camera I am still learning lots of new techniques and trying new things. Some work, while others don't, but every time I try something new I learn something valuable. I want to create a learning environment with my classes which achieves the same thing. So here is how this program will address all of the above points:
1. Theory & Technical - Small group classroom sessions - max 6 attendees to keep things personal and provide lots of room for participation
2. Assignments - Provided as part of any class; share your favourite photos with me and I will give you an individual assignment to try based on your skillset and experience level
3. Hands-on Time - Photo dive days organized through UB Diving - go to a good photo site, dive with other photographers, maybe try out some of my gear, debrief and review images afterwards - more details TBD
4. Feedback - Image reviews at the end of every classroom session. Image reviews can also be done ad-hoc, so you don't need to be signed up for the specific class to join us for the image review at the end. Image review on its own is $15 per session.

To register, email me at email@example.com, hit the contact button below, or send your email address to myself or UB Diving on Facebook. I will ask you for an interac e-transfer for the class fee (or we can arrange an alternate payment method). Once that is received, then your spot will be held!
Life happens, so if you have to cancel more than 24 hours before the event, then I will send all your money back. If you cancel within 24 hours of the event, a $25 cancellation fee will be charged, and the rest returned. But talk to me if something out of your control like a ferry cancellation happens!
I am happy to provide a number of different services, depending on your experience and level. I am located on Vancouver Island, in the Courtenay/Comox area, for any in-person services. All prices are in CAD.
Send me photos and questions in advance, then we can connect over Skype and talk about what is working for you, what you are stuck on, and what you need to do to take things to the next level! We can cover equipment issues, gear recommendations, techniques, composition, subject selection, editing, or anything else that strikes your fancy!
$70/hr (pre-work is free of charge)
In-Person Classroom Sessions
We'll sit down and go over detailed presentations and hands-on work on strobe positioning, composition, wide angle and/or macro techniques, and anything else that might be of use, tailor-made to suit your experience level.
Let's go diving! I'll keep an eye on your technique, and we can review images underwater and work on lighting, positioning, composition and so-on.
Photo Editing Consult
Send me any number of photos you want advice on. I will go through and edit them myself, then we can have a Skype call to chat about what you did, how it worked for you, what I did and what I would recommend.
We'll go through as much as you want to cover on Lightroom and photoshop, from the very basics on up to advanced backscatter removal, color channel adjustments, cloning, content-aware fill, and other handy techniques!
General Advice - Free :-)
Email me any time to talk about gear, what camera you should get to start out, whether you should try underwater photography, and so on. I'm happy to just discuss things and throw ideas around.
